- Layers of Identity: Multiple Psychological Senses of Community W ithin a Community Setting Anne E. Brodsky Christine M. Marx Psicología This article explores psychological sense of community (PSOC), a feeling of belonging to, importance of, andidentification with a community. In much of the research on PSOC, there has been a focus on identifying a singlePSOC for an individual in a setting. Qualitative and quantitative data are used here to investigate the presence andoperation of multiple psychological senses of community for individuals. These multiple PSOCs are explored intwo macro, territorial settings and a subcommunity of one of these settings: a job training and education centerfor underserved women in Baltimore City. Exploration of multiple PSOCs at the macro- and subcommunity levelsexpands our conceptualization of the operation of PSOC and has real-life implications for fostering positiveoutcomes in multicultural communities. © 2001 John Wiley & Sons, Inc 2004 artículo científico 0717-0297 https://www.redalyc.org/articulo.oa?id=96713215 en http://www.redalyc.org/revista.oa?id=967 Psykhe application/pdf Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile Psykhe (Chile) Num.2 Vol.13
