- Highly Efficient Anti‐Drip and Smoke Suppression Effect of Polypropylene Composites Based on Intumescent Flame Retardant and Metallo‐Organic Compound Juan Chai Haoxue Lu Yan Xia Juan Li Zhenghong Guo Zhengping Fang Journal of Applied Polymer Science ABSTRACT Polypropylene (PP) is now widely used in various parts of automotive manufacturing, but pure polypropylene cannot meet the performance requirements and safe use requirements. The aim of this work is to design a flame‐retardant system of halogen‐free flame retardant for polypropylene that meets the requirements of flame retardant safety. The flame‐retardant system with Piperazine pyrophosphate (PAPP), Melamine polyphosphate (MPP) and Ce based metallo‐organic compound (Ce‐CP) was selected by controlling different content ratios, and its flame retardancy and mechanical properties were studied. The results show that Ce‐CP, as an anti‐dripping agent, can be applied at a low addition for suppressing the melt dripping of PP. When the mass fractions of PAPP, MPP, and Ce‐CP are 14.6%, 4.9%, and 2.5%, respectively, the limiting oxygen index of PP can be increased to 27%, and the vertical combustion grade UL‐94 can reach V‐0 level. 10.1002/app.57728 http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/termsAndConditions#vor
