- Solid Filler Shear‐Dominated Ignition for Puncturing High‐Energy Propellant Junwu Zhu Yanqing Wu Lin Ao Kun Yang Liying Dong Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics ABSTRACT Puncturing is one of the accidental mechanical stimuli faced by solid engines, which may lead to ignition of the high‐energy propellant and cause severe casualties. However, the complex composition and heterogeneous mesostructure of the propellant, combined with limitations in diagnostic techniques, have hindered a comprehensive understanding of its ignition mechanisms. To investigate the ignition mechanisms of propellant puncture, a visualization experiment was designed to observe the ignition process, and the ignition‐initiating components were identified by in situ energy dispersive spectroscopy (EDS). The results indicate that the ignition originates from the ammonium perchlorate (AP) particles in the inner edge annular region of the loading area. Shear‐induced energy localization rather than bulk heating dominated the ignition process. 10.1002/prep.70079 http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/termsAndConditions#vor
