- Internal Fireball Emission Measurements Utilizing a Singular Sensor Hyperspectral Imager Matthew G Bielawski Elliot R. Wainwright Propellants, Explosives, Pyrotechnics ABSTRACT A snapshot hyperspectral imaging system was used in tandem with flat‐plate, hemispherical detonation tests to characterize the internal emission and reactions from aluminized and non‐aluminized composition C‐4 (91% RDX, 5% plasticizer, 2% binder, and 2% mineral oil) charges. We present the calibration procedures and an assessment of the measurement system with a unique experimental configuration for the characterization of post‐detonation fireball events. Atomic and molecular spectra, as well as temperature measurements obtained via gray‐body fitting of the resulting spectra, are presented. This work provides examples of how a hyperspectral imaging system can be used to extract a wide variety of characteristics of an explosive energetic material test, in particular interior fireball dynamics. We discuss limitations of the current system design and potential applications for model verification and validation. 10.1002/prep.70147 http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/termsAndConditions#vor
