- Dispersion modeling: Think before you model John Currie Process Safety Progress Abstract During a Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), the study team identifies scenarios that could have significant impacts. In many cases, scenarios are analyzed and protective layers identified so that the risks are managed. However, for some scenarios, further analysis is required to refine the potential consequences. Dispersion modeling is a useful tool for better understanding the potential impacts of a chemical release. This paper provides modeling tips that will aid a practitioner setting up a model and estimating the potential consequences of the event. The modeler will gain some understanding of parameters and inputs that help create a reasonable representation of the scenario to better reflect what a release will look like. A case study is also provided that offers some guidance on how to interpret the modeling results. 10.1002/prs.70021 http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/termsAndConditions#vor
