contents
This study evaluated the expression of proteins related to energy metabolism in hypertrophied left ventricles of spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHR) using proteomics. Results showed altered expression of key enzymes: reduced enoyl-CoA hydratase and increased levels of other beta-oxidation enzymes, reduced glycolysis enzymes (fructose bisphosphate aldolase and triosephosphate isomerase), and enhanced pyruvate dehydrogenase involved in glucose oxidation. Proteins related to mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation were overexpressed, except for reduced ATP synthase alpha-subunit. These findings suggest that hypertrophied left ventricles may rely on multiple energy sources rather than exclusively on fatty acid beta-oxidation or glycolysis.
