| contents | <p><b><i>Scopaeus velutinus</i> Motschulsky, 1858</b></p><p>This species was described from ‘Indes orientales’ by Motschulsky (1858: 642, 643). The record for Borneo (Bernhauer 1922: 230) may go back to two male Bornean specimens (Pagate, Telang 1881, leg. Grabowsky) of an undescribed species in the Fauvel collection (ISNB) identified as <i>Scopaeus decipiens</i> Kraatz, 1859, which is considered a synonym of <i>S. velutinus</i> since Fauvel (1904: 53). Type studies revealed that this synonymy is incorrect. Both <i>S. velutinus</i> and <i>S. decipiens</i> are absent from Indonesia. The undescribed species from Borneo is, however, closely related to the ‘true’ <i>S. decipiens</i> from India.</p> |
