| contents | <p><b>FIRE-MANED BOWERBIRD <i>Sericulus bakeri</i></b></p><p>Present at both of our sites, in small numbers from 1,150 to 1,385 m, giving diverse harsh calls, most of them soft, a few loud. Several female-plumaged birds and multiple adult males gathered in one fruiting tree. We found one bower at 1,150 m, on the shaded sloping forestȱ floor.ȱ Itsȱ shapeȱ wasȱ rectangular,ȱ 38ȱ ×ȱ 20ȱ cm,ȱ andȱ itȱ comprisedȱ severalȱ dozenȱ darkȱ brownȱ sticksȱ 13ȱ cmȱ longȱ lyingȱ flatȱ onȱ theȱ groundȱ orȱ insertedȱ diagonallyȱ inȱ twoȱ rows.ȱ Decorations consisted of 128 white fruits 1 cm in diameter. Munggur name: ‘mororáng’. KDB also observed males and female-plumaged individuals at Keki Lodge.</p> |
