  • <p>Tab. 1 - Main differential characters between <i>Aplocnemus</i> subgenera. * = <i>A</i>. (<i>Ischnopalpus</i>) <i>subcostatus</i> Schilsky, 1894, type species of this subgenus, has been here chosen as representative. It is very common in Morocco, from the sea level to over 2000 m elevation (original, unpublished data). But taxonomy is uncertain [it might be a possible synonym of <i>A</i>. (<i>Ischnopalpus</i>) <i>morio</i> (Schönerr, 1817)] and this name may turn out, in the future, as incorrect.</p><table><thead><tr><th></th><th><b>subg. <i>Aplocnemus</i></b></th><th><b>subg. <i>Diplambe</i></b></th><th><b>subg. <i>Ischnopalpus</i> *</b></th></tr></thead><tbody><tr><th>Median lobe shape</th><td>Tubular, approx. same thickness in lateral and ventral views; in lateral view more or less, but always clearly, arched (namely bent sternally at base and/or at apex: see, for example, Fig. 20).</td><td>Tubular, in lateral view thinner, flattened, either bent (basally and/or apically) or more or less straight; in ventral view wider, elongate, subelliptical (Figs. 47, 48).</td><td>Dorsally open, in lateral view rather thin, straight or slightly convex on sternal side; in ventral view elongate, more or less sub-elliptical (Figs. 15, 17, 18).</td></tr><tr><th>Tegmen</th><td>Flat, obliquely encircling median lobe (Figs. 16, 20).
