Being characterised by a dry and arid <span>desert</span> climate throughout most of the year, the Arabian Peninsula not only offers the opportunity as a global testing ground for the development of sustainable solutions with regards to the built environment, but proofs to be a place of study with regards to the connections of humanity, culture, architecture, landscape and climate. Much of this knowledge has traditionally been handed down through generations and has been adopted to advancement in development and technology. However, much of the knowledge is documented and preserved through oral histories, making this wisdom and local ingenuity in accessible for most.</span></p> <p><span>The cluster studies the domestic (or community focused) built environment of the Arabian Peninsula, its various typologies, its responses to climate and culture, the creators of these structure as well as the users and how various education and international networks shaped and influenced but also got inspired by these developments. Looking at spaces from an architectural, anthropological, and environmental and socio-cultural background the research will lead into exploration a digital archive “repository” bringing together previously undocumented material and captures stories and lived memories of a rich ‘<span>desert</span> culture’.</span></p> <p><span>The cluster brings together a diverse range of researchers from various institutions, cultural backgrounds and varying experiences in research.
