contents
The exponential growth in composite material applications, particularly in aerospace, automotive, and biomedical fields, has driven research into natural fiber-reinforced polymer composites. This study evaluates the mechanical and water absorption properties of hybrid epoxy composites reinforced with flax and sun hemp fibers. Using the hand lay-up process, three composite variations—2FH, 3FH, and 4FH—were fabricated. Mechanical properties, including tensile strength, flexural strength, impact resistance, and interlaminar shear strength (ILSS), were determined alongside water absorption behavior. FTIR and SEM analyses were conducted to examine chemical and surface properties. Results indicate enhanced mechanical performance with increased fiber content, although water absorption exhibited a proportional rise.
