contents <p><span>Due to insufficient domestic production, the European Union has been compelled to import over 16 million tons of vegetable oil annually over the last three years to fulfill its demand.</span> <span>Brilian project will promote a new business model, in cooperation with farmers’ associations and cooperatives, to encourage and foster the cultivation of dry resistant and low input crops on marginal and unused lands.</span></p> <p><span>Under the leadership of Novamont, the Italian Pilot aims to recover unproductive and not economic sustainable lands for farms (cardoon, safflower and sunflower) through the implementation of regenerative agriculture practices to boost the production of a) </span><strong><span>vegetable oil</span></strong><span>, to obtain valuable bio-based products, such as bio-plastics, bio-lubricants, bio-fertilizers, bio-herbicides, b)</span><strong><span> oil cake</span></strong><span>, for the generation of bio-stimulants and animal feed, c) </span><strong><span>biomass of cardoon</span></strong><span>, that will be transformed in ingredients for the production of substrates (bales) useful for the cultivation of edible mushrooms.</span></p>
