A scientometric review was adopted for this study. First, a literature search using a structured search string was employed to collect bibliographic data from the Scopus from 2005 to 2024. However, 2024 is ongoing, more papers can appear in the coming months. Second, a total of 392 English-language documents were collected and considered for analysis. Third, the data analysis was performed using R-Biblioshiny. Additionally, a qualitative investigation was conducted to identify challenges and solutions within abstracts of papers. Findings reveal that the majority of papers were published in 2019 and 2023. The most influential research contributors were China (country), Y. Li (author), and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications, China (institution). There was a strong research collaboration between China and the USA. This study explored key challenges like energy demand, environmental impact, cooling system, resource management, empirical data on energy usage, and high costs. Potential solutions emphasized HVAC optimization, energy-efficient hardware, energy monitoring and modeling, renewable energy use, and awareness. This study is limited to a specific search string, fields, and a selective database. Other researchers may use additional keywords and search fields. Researchers, policymakers, and professionals in data centers can benefit from the findings of this study.</span></span></p>
