  • <p><em><span>Folk literature expresses the experience of rural human life. Folk literature expresses the lifestyle and beliefs of the society. Folk tradition is a way in which the folk people express their inner thoughts in the form of stories, songs and dances. This sort of literature took shape as oral literature in ancient times and later took on a written form. The uniqueness of this literature is that it expresses the individual life experiences of the folk people and the social disorders through the medium of art. People easily express their ideas from their minds through folk art forms. The people who initiated this type of literature could be the folk women. They developed this art by singing their inner feelings as songs. The position of women in society includes the rights of women and the relationship between society and women. While talking about the status of women, it covers various aspects like their education, economic status, social status and family. If society wants to rise, the status of women must rise. Women have more responsibility than men to raise good children and bring them up to be useful for the wellbeing of the society.</span></em><span><span>  </span></span><em><span>Therefore, the upliftment of a society can be a major pillar for the development of the society in the hands of women. This article explains how women are shown in Tamil folk literature.</span></em></p>
