| contents | <p><em><span>All devotional literature sings the praises of God, but only the Periyapuranam sings the devotional excellence of those who are devoted to Lord Shiva. Periyapuranam shows us the love that the devotees have for God and the lengths to which they went to express that love. If we take the meaning of the word "length" superficially here, there is no doubt that there will be difficulties in understanding the lives of women during the Periyapurana period. Periya Purana is the twelfth of the twelve Saiva religious books. It was written using Sundarar's Thirutondar Puranam and Nambiandar Nambi's Thirutondar Thiruvanthadi as the first and second books respectively. In this book, Sekkizhar has recorded about thirty-four women including Karaikal Ammaiyar, Isai Gnaniyar, Mangaiyar Karasiyar, Thilagavathiyar, Siruthondar's wife Thiruvenkattu Nangai, and Thiru Neelakandar's wife. The women who lived in that time were acting according to the wishes of men in their lives. They have operated beyond their personal preferences for the family. There is nothing of their life incidents and desires were recorded. The article deciphers the life of women in Periyapuranam.</span></em></p> |
