contents
This model is part of the toolbox built within the framework of the PROMISCES project. It contains example of input files for the RIVM HYDRUS and MODFLOW6 model train. These results are related to PROMISCES Deliverable D2.3 – Toolbox fate & transport modelling of PMTs in the environment.

Transport of PFAS in the unsaturated zone was performed with the software 1D-HYDRUS. The subsequent transport of PFAS through the aquifer was modelled using MODFLOW 6.

These models can be used to calculate concentrations at a point-of-compliance in groundwater (drinking water abstraction). In this way, environmental quality criteria for PFAS can be used as a starting point for the calculation of corresponding concentrations in the soil or dredged material (sediment). The results can be used to derive generic risk limits in the soil or dredged material (sediment). The example model is based on the leaching of PFOA from 50 m3 of soil or dredged material (7m wide, 7m long and 1m thick) with a concentration of 7 µg/kg .

Araya Negash was the main modeller of the HYDRUS model and Floris Naus of the MODFLOW6 model. Arjen Wintersen was involved in the description and integration of the model train in PROMISCES.
