contents
In the last third of 16th century not only were swords used in the Gulf of Lepanto, but pens were employed as well to preserve the memory of the San-ta Liga's victory over the Turks. Amongst those poets who celebrated, whether in Latin or vernacular, the exaltation of this victory, we find the relatively un-known figure of Francisco de Pedrosa. Here we provide details about his life and analyse his work Austriaca siue Naumachia (1580), a Latin epic poem dedicated to king Felipe II in order to glorify his greatness as well as to seek his patronage.
