| contents | <p><span>The article explores the potential of the walk-and-talk method in studying industrial heritage, drawing on interviews with former employees of the Riga Porcelain Factory conducted during the project “Walk and Remember: The Riga Porcelain Factory in Oral History.” The project took place in the first half of 2024 in collaboration with the Institute of Philosophy and Sociology at the Faculty of Humanities, University of Latvia, the Latvian Oral History Researchers’ Association “Dzīvesstāsts,” and the Riga Porcelain Museum of the Riga City Municipality Association of Cultural Institutions.</span></p> <p><span>During the project, former factory employees participated in walk-and-talk interviews around the factory's territory – their former workplaces – sharing memories of the factory's everyday life and their professional experiences. The study is based on the authors' engagement with these stories and examines how the participants' narratives reflect broader political and economic changes that shaped their biographies.</span></p> <p><span>The walk-and-talk method demonstrated its effectiveness and relevance in studying industrial heritage by providing contextual insights: being on-site enabled participants to connect their experiences with the physical environment. The method fostered participant involvement, while the informal setting encouraged richer and more open conversations. As a result, the walk-and-talk method facilitated a dynamic narrative of industrial heritage, intertwining personal stories with historical context.</span></p> <p><span>This study is a rare example in Latvia of employing the walk-and-talk method in researching industrial heritage, contributing to the development of this approach within the Latvian research and cultural context.</span></p> |
