| contents | <p><em><span>There are a lot of health benefits attached to the global consumption of fruits and vegetables on daily basis. During the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) era which lasted for more than a year, the World Health Organization (WHO) advised people all over the world to embark on the heavy consumption of fruits and vegetables to boost their immune system as the only alternative in preventing ourselves from contracting the deadly virus pending the time scientists all over the world are busy researching into how they can produce a strong and effective vaccine that can combat the deadly virus that have killed several millions in the world from the time there was an outbreak of the virus in China. This review in seeing to how postharvest losses could be eliminated in fruits and vegetables became necessary having noticed the importance of fruits and vegetables to the human body during the time of the pandemic disease. Quite a number of ways forward were provided in this review as solutions to eliminating postharvest losses observed in fruits and vegetables grown in Nigeria. Factors such as harvesting, material handling, transportation, controlled environment among others formed part of the discussion as these factors were noticed to be a common factor found responsible for the high postharvest losses observed in fruits and vegetables grown in Nigeria. </span></em></p> |
