-
Axon guidance is a developmental process by which cells of the nervous system position themselves accurately in designed circuitry through the use of repulsive and attractive forces. Molecules that function in axon guidance genes are derived from the semaphorin, ephrin, plexin, netrin, and roundabout (ROBO)/SLIT gene families. We describe here activation and repression of axon guidance genes as cardinal transcriptional features of the breast and lung cancer transcriptome in humans. Expression of some of these genes in the primary tumor was correlated with worse survival outcome.
