For the winter sports lover, there are skiing and snowboarding facilities at Auli and Gulmarg and, for the adventure-seeker, it also hosts heli-skiing on untouched Himachal Pradesh. It is also famous for mountain bike trails across the unexplored Zanskar and Pir Panjal mountains besides water sports including white-water rafting on the Ganga River. It also boasts a unique yak safari. The varied ecosystems here, from alpine meadows to subtropical forests, sustain quite exclusive wildlife; it&#39;s an abode for scholars and environmental enthusiasts. It has significant spiritual and cultural importance besides its breathtaking natural features. A travelling destination Tibet, monasteries, fairs and folk art ensure that the tourist develops an intimate interaction with the heritage of the region; the age-old Buddhist traditions portrayed by old monasteries like Tawang in India and Tiger’s Nest in Bhutan; holy places like Amarnath Cave and Vaishno Devi, where each year thousands of pilgrims visit it from all over the globe-give Himalayan tourism a more spiritual dimension.
