contents
This thesis, proposed as a Master’s Degree dissertation for the Digital Humanities and Digital Knowledge Master’s Program (Academic Year 2021/2022), explores the growing intersection of virtual reality, 3D modeling, and Cultural Heritage. As virtual tourism, archiving, restoration, and educational initiatives increasingly rely on digitization, the practical process of creating accurate 3D replicas can often be complex and requires specialized knowledge.

This work emphasizes the necessity for user-friendly tools that empower non-expert museum staff to generate 3D replicas of artifacts using an image-based modeling approach. The research documents critical moments of reflection throughout the 3D photogrammetric survey process, encouraging operators to recognize the complexity factors inherent in the models and providing guidance on how to manage them effectively.

Additionally, the thesis presents a case study on Dynamic Collections, focusing on its pedagogical and research-oriented applications. The proposed methodology introduces a semi-automatic process for generating precise 3D models from photographs, offering potential for further implementation and improvement in cultural heritage digitization.
