| contents | <p><span lang="EN-US">The article is devoted to the symbolic meanings of the image of Our Lady Oranta, presents in the altar apses of the Assumption Cathedral of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra and St. Sophia in Kyiv. This symbolism is considered through the prism of medieval Christian numerology, embodied in the ins</span><span lang="EN-US">criptions on both sides of the halo of Oranta and in the ornaments placed</span><span lang="EN-US"> under her image. It is concluded that due to the sacred numbers the semantic series connected with the majestic image of the Virgin Mary depicted in the altar part of the ancient Kyiv churches were significantly deepened and expanded. <span>It is shown how numerical symbolism introduces a deep liturgical and</span> Eucha</span><span lang="EN-US">ristic symbolism of the image of Oranta. Of particular importance is the main Sacrament of the Transfiguration of the Holy Gifts.</span></p> |
