| contents |
In old literature, scurvy was associated with increased risk of pneumonia. After the identification of vitamin C, there were several reports about vitamin C administration being beneficial in the treatment of pneumonia patient and this is one of the reports.

Machine translation of summary:
Summary.
1. In the edematous form of toxic diphtheria, mortality could be significantly reduced by the simultaneous administration of large intravenous doses of serum and ascorbic acid.
2. In typhus abdominalis, systematic administration of ascorbic acid resulted in an almost complete prevention of intestinal bleeding.
3. The results cited were achieved with amounts of vitamin C that often did not saturate the organism. In pneumonia, however, reversing the vitamin deficiency appears to be a fundamental prerequisite for achieving a successful cure.
4. As long as the mechanism of action is not clarified, only ascorbic acid itself, and not neutralized solutions of it, should be used in acute infectious diseases.

Summary in German:
Zusammenfassung.
1.
