Around the world, there are ongoing efforts to involve members of the public in exoplanet science, such as ExoClock and Exoplanet Watch. By creating a community that participates in the discovery and study of worlds beyond our own, we contribute to a society that better understands the significance of these discoveries.

Star Guide is a new project that contributes to at-home exoplanet observation by streamlining and simplifying target- and reference-star selection. Star Guide is designed for novice users, such as astronomy enthusiasts who wish to make the transition to citizen scientists. It can also be used by early career researchers who lack observational
experience. We present the initial results of this project: the responses to requirements elicitation, the design of the system, initial online prototypes and feedback from alpha testers. We also present our roadmap for future developments including machine learning implementations of target selection and image/data processing.
|
