PGB.</p><p><b>Type locality.</b></p><p>“ Agricultural areas in Mueang Loei District, Loei Province, Thailand (17°34′43.020″N, 101°51′04.020″E) ”.</p><p><b>Differential diagnosis.</b></p><p>See under <i>H. khaowongense</i>.</p><p><b>Distribution.</b></p><p>This species is, apart from the type locality in Loei province, known from two more localities: one in Lampang and one in Chonburi province.</p><p><b>Remarks.</b></p><p>This species might be conspecific with <i>H. khaowongense</i>. The differences mentioned by Tanmuangpak and Dumrongrojwattana (2022) between this species and <i>H. khaowongense</i> (therein under <i>Gyliotrachela saraburiensis</i>) are only regarding the number of apertural barriers, which are very variable in <i>H. khaowongense</i>. We have noticed additionally that the shells of <i>H. cultura</i> are strongly shouldered when observed laterally (e. g., as in Tanmuangpak and Dumrongrojwattana 2022: Fig. 2 E, K) which is not typical for <i>H. khaowongense</i>. Due to the absence of relevant comparative material, we do not formally synonymise the two species. Specimens examined by us from Chonburi (Fig. 127) and Lampang provinces show very similar shell morphology as figured in Tanmuangpak and Dumrongrojwattana (2022), just with a wider umbilicus. We do not intend to describe this species as separate from <i>H. cultura</i> until more comparative material becomes available.</p> |
