| contents | <p><b>Genus <i>Seira</i> Lubbock, 1870</b></p><p>The following characters are shared by both new <i>Seira</i> species and are not repeated in the descriptions:</p><p>Scales heavily ciliate, oval or elongated and apically rounded, rarely pointed or irregular, present on Ant I to proximal half of Ant III, head, thorax, abdomen, legs (except empodia), anterior collophore, dorsal and ventral manubrium and dens ventrally (Figs 1–2, 3F, 5F–G, 6, 7E, 10E–F). Mac heavily ciliate, apically strongly or weakly foot shaped or acuminate. Mic smooth and apically ramificate or simple. Bothriotricha with accessory chaetae ciliated and lanced-shaped (Fig. 1).</p><p>Head. Antennae shorter than the trunk length (Figs 2, 6). Ant IV not annulated, with an apical bulb apically bilobed.Ant I with 3 proximal sens-like smooth chaetae (Figs 3B, 7B). Eyes 8+8, G and H smaller, with 5 interocular chaetae (<b>q</b>, <b>s</b>, <b>p</b>, <b>r</b>, <b>t</b>); 2 pairs of bothriotricha (1 subantennal and 1 post-ocellar) present (Figs 3E, 7E). Four pointed labral papillae (inner and outer) present (Figs 3C, 7C); labral formula with 4 (<b>a1–2</b>), 5 (<b>m0–2</b>), 5 (<b>p0–2</b>) smooth chaetae, <b>a1</b> not thicker than the others, <b>p0–1</b> larger than the others (Fig. 3C); four prelabral (<b>pl1–2</b>) ciliate chaetae (Figs 3C, 7D). Maxillary palp with smooth <b>t.a.</b> and <b>b.c.</b>; sublobal plate with 3 inner subequal appendages and 1 distal minute appendix, all smooth and acuminate. Labial palp with five main papillae (A–E) plus one hypostomal papilla (H), with 0, 5, 0, 4,4, 2 guard appendages, respectively; labial papilla E <b>l.p.</b> pointed and surpassing the papilla apex (Fig. 3D). Labium with 5 proximal smooth chaetae (Fig. 3F). Basolateral and basomedian labial fields with chaetae <b>a1–5</b> smooth (<b>a2</b> larger than the others), <b>M1–2</b>, <b>E</b>, <b>L1–2</b> ciliated, <b>r</b> reduced to a small smooth spine (Fig. 3F).</p><p>Thorax and abdomen. Th II not strongly projected over the head, mesothoracic hood absent (Figs 2, 6); Abd II–IV bothriotrichal formula as 2 (<b>a5</b>, <b>m2</b>), 3 (<b>a5</b>, <b>m2</b>, <b>m5</b>), 3 (<b>T2</b>, <b>T4</b>, <b>D3</b>); Th II–Abd V with <b>ms</b> and sens formula as 1,0|1, 0,1, 0,0 and 1, 1| 0,2, 2,+,3, respectively (Figs 4, 8).</p><p>Legs. Tibiotarsus I–III outer side distally with 1 tenent hair finely ciliate and apically capitate; inner side of tibiotarsus III with 1 distal smooth chaeta (Fig. 5E). Pretarsus I–III with one minute smooth chaeta on both sides (Fig. 5E). Unguis outer side with a pair of developed lateral teeth (as in <i>Lepidocyrtinus</i> Börner, 1903) and one unpaired proximal tooth flattened; inner side with 4 teeth, 2 paired basal (<b>b.t.</b>) and 2 unpaired distally (<b>m.t.</b> and <b>a.t.</b>). Unguiculi with 4 lamellae (<b>ai</b>, <b>ae</b>, <b>pi</b>, <b>pe</b>) (Fig. 5E).</p><p>Genital plate. Female with two pairs (superior and inferior) of small smooth chaetae, without other modifications. Male’s plate circinate, with 3 unequal eugenital chaetae and about 15 (1 unpaired superior) circumgenital chaetae, all smooth (Fig. 10H).</p><p>Mucro falcate (distal tooth), without the basal spine; proximal tooth reduced and enveloped by the dens cuticle.</p> |
