| contents | <p><strong><span lang="EN-GB">Abstract: </span></strong><span lang="EN-GB">The built environment, encompassing all human-made surroundings, from buildings and parks to neighbourhoods and cities, serves as the backdrop for human activity. Integrating art within these spaces is crucial in enhancing aesthetic appeal, fostering cultural expression, and promoting community engagement. This paper examines how incorporating artistic elements into architectural and urban design transforms spaces into environments that are not only functional but also visually stimulating and emotionally resonant. Art's presence in public and private spaces fosters a sense of identity and belonging, encourages social cohesion, and reflects the cultural values of a community. Additionally, art in the built environment contributes to psychological well-being by providing visual interest and inspiration, positively impacting mental health and overall quality of life. Through an interdisciplinary approach, this study draws on case studies from various global and Indian cities and theoretical frameworks to illustrate the multifaceted benefits of integrating art into urban and architectural design. Examples such as murals, sculptures, interactive installations, and other forms of public art demonstrate how these artistic interventions create visually stimulating environments, evoke deep emotional connections, and encourage social interaction and community engagement. The role of art in way finding, orientation, and interactive engagement is also highlighted, showcasing its ability to make spaces more navigable and participatory.
