contents
This research paper investigates the integration of thermal comfort strategies with sustainable design practices in modern office buildings, particularly in the context of India's rapidly urbanizing environment and rising temperatures. With air-conditioning becoming a default solution in office spaces, this study emphasizes the importance of passive and hybrid techniques that reduce reliance on energy-intensive systems. The paper explores a range of strategies—orientation, ventilation, insulation, glazing, green roofs, and advanced cooling technologies such as radiant and evaporative cooling—that collectively enhance comfort while minimizing environmental impact. Through literature analysis and case studies of Indira Paryavaran Bhawan in New Delhi and Cyberwalk in Gurugram, the research demonstrates the feasibility and benefits of sustainable thermal comfort solutions. These examples reveal how the combination of passive design principles with active systems can significantly reduce energy consumption, improve indoor air quality, and promote occupant well-being. The study concludes with recommendations for policy, design, and technological interventions that support the adoption of sustainable cooling methods in commercial buildings, contributing to broader climate change mitigation efforts.
