  • <p><span>In the present investigation, the 18 quantitative characters of greengram germplasm for 646 accessions were evaluated. Hierarchical Cluster Analysis (HCA) and Principal Component analysis (PCA) were used for base collections. Eight distinct clusters could be recognized from the tree for base collection. The PCA revealed that the total variability cumulatively accounting for 60.47 per cent in base<span>   </span>collections. <span> </span>The average range retention coresponding to all the 18 traits accounted for 88.5 per cent. <span> </span>The cluster VI revealed highest mean performance for many morphological characters the parents were selected from different clusters for intra specific hybridization based on the wide adaptable nature of the accessions. The selection of lines and testers were not found in the same clusters. </span></p>
