| contents |
Epigenetic is a very sensitive regulatory mechanism, which in most of the cases is affected by the environment. Epigenetic theories primarily emphasize the interaction between genes and the environment because the environment has a profound role in determining the epigenetic modifications occurring in an individual’s genome that finally influence the development of the organism and process of their heredity. Epigenetic changes in plant tissue culture are caused by changes in the expression of the information in the DNA brought about by covalent modifications occurring in the chromatins and allowing cells to sustain different traits nevertheless containing the same genetic material. Due to interplay among epigenetic mechanisms such as DNA methylation histone modifications, and micro-RNA interference (RNAi).The chromatin structure is also critically affected. These modifications may influence gene transcriptions. If the chromatin is tightly packed (heterochromatin) due to DNA methylation, histone modifications and micro-RNA interference (RNAi), the genes those are in the heterochromatin zones would not be available for the transcription machinery. In consequence, the gene or genes will be silenced or their expression is markedly decreased. Regulation of these mechanisms influences gene expression by modifying the access to the underlying genetic information, ultimately affecting phenotypes. This is another area of emerging science which helps us in future with several ways to genetic improvement of the plants and animals or living beings.
|
