Riverside diara lands are prepared by alluvial deposits, giving them excellent drained soil and accepting fertilisers each year, making them good for vegetable cultivation at any time. Successful coconut farming requires good land preparation, efficient water supply, careful attention to nutrients and addressing pest problems. Distinct problems such as blossom-end rot, cracked fruit, downy mildew and bacterial wilt all need special treatments. When we learn about Diara lands and work toward sustainability, we can raise yields and give the public what they want. Disease-resistant plants and careful management of pests are important steps to secure Diara land farming into the future.
