| contents |
This study investigates bacterial-fungal interaction dynamics through coculturing environmental fungal species with bacterial species. Phenotypic interactions were assessed based on fungal growth, bacterial affinity to hyphae, cell dispersal distance, and motility. The combinations were classified as positive, negative, or neutral. Notably, Aspergillus nigerexhibited species-specific antagonism against Bacillus subtilis, linked to the secondary metabolite Pyranonigrin A. Selected pairs underwent LC-MS/MS and transcriptomic analyses to evaluate differential gene expression and metabolite production in coculture versus monoculture. These findings provide ecological and functional insights into microbial network interactions and the potential for unlocking cryptic metabolic pathways.
|
