| contents | <p>Motivation, often referred to as "drive," plays a pivotal role in guiding students<br>toward achieving their academic and personal goals. Rooted in emotions and<br>goal-oriented behavior, motivation can originate internally or externally,<br>depending on individual perception. Academic achievement, particularly within<br>the context of marginalized communities, is greatly influenced by such<br>motivational factors. This study focuses on the achievement motivation and<br>academic performance of Madrasah secondary school students in selected<br>districts of West Bengal, specifically in the area of English grammar. The study<br>seeks to explore both intrinsic and extrinsic factors affecting these students’<br>academic performance. It highlights critical socio-economic and educational<br>disadvantages that contribute to underachievement among Muslim students,<br>including poor home conditions, low parental education, overcrowding, and<br>malnutrition. The findings of the Sachar Committee Report serve as a foundation<br>to understand the systemic barriers faced by Muslim students, particularly the<br>low enrollment and high dropout rates. This research aims to contribute to a<br>better understanding of how achievement motivation interacts with sociocultural and economic contexts to shape educational outcomes, ultimately<br>offering suggestions for educational policy and intervention.</p> |
