•
As international health expenditure grows and the burden of chronic illnesses and ageing populations becomes a reality, countries are leveraging medical and wellness tourism as economic growth and sustainable development drives. Positioned at the nexus of affordability, high-quality healthcare, and strong wellness heritage, Thailand has emerged as a leading destination for health-conscious travelers. With a legacy of medical excellence, a thriving private health industry, and world-class acknowledged hospitals, Thailand's strategic master plan to become "World Class Healthcare Capital" by 2030 is not only replete with great opportunities but also very urgently challenged. This paper examines Thailand's development as a well-being and medical tourism destination by examining most significant services being offered, market trends, government policies, and comparative strengths, i.e., Thai traditional medicine and low prices. It also analyzes Thailand's challenges, including human resource shortages, overloading of infrastructure, and global competition. By critically analyzing such forces, the study offers insights into the sustainability and strategic direction Thailand needs to maintain its global leadership in health and wellness tourism over the coming decade.

Keywords

Medical tourism, wellness tourism, health tourism, Thailand healthcare, sustainable development, ageing population, chronic illness, Thai traditional medicine, healthcare affordability, healthcare strategy, global health competition, infrastructure, 2030 vision
