Zhang</p><p><b>Notes.</b></p><p>The genus <i>Pyrispora</i> was introduced with <i>Py. castaneae</i> as its type species, isolated from <i>Castanea mollissima</i> in China (Jiang et al. 2021 a). Later, <i>Pseudoplagiostoma castaneae</i> was described from the same host and was subsequently treated as a synonym of <i>Py. castaneae</i> (Mu et al. 2022, 2024 b). Recently, Zhang et al. (2025) proposed the genus <i>Neoplagiostoma</i>, typified by <i>N. castaneae</i> based on the basionym <i>Ps. castaneae</i>, but failed to compare it with <i>Pyrispora</i> either morphologically or phylogenetically. Our study confirms that <i>N. castaneae</i> and <i>Py. castaneae</i> are identical in host association, geographic distribution, morphology, and phylogenetic placement (Fig. 1). Therefore, <i>Neoplagiostoma</i> should be regarded as a synonym of <i>Pyrispora</i>.</p> |
