contents
Moringa oleifera, commonly known as the drumstick tree, is a fast-growing, multipurpose species widely recognized for its nutritional, medicinal, and ecological benefits. This study investigates the role of Moringa trees planted on farm bunds in enhancing agricultural sustainability in the Gwalior district of Madhya Pradesh, Central India. Using a mixed-methods approach involving field surveys, soil testing, and farmer interviews across selected villages, the study evaluates the impact of Moringa on soil fertility, crop productivity, income generation, and food security. The results indicate that farms with Moringa on bunds show improved soil organic matter and moisture retention compared to control sites. Additionally, farmers benefit economically through the sale of pods, leaves, and seeds, with a notable contribution to household nutrition and livestock fodder. The research highlights the potential of Moringa oleifera as a sustainable agroforestry intervention, suggesting that wider adoption could enhance farm resilience and rural livelihoods in semi-arid regions.
