contents
Datasets on the electron-elastic and electron-impact ionization cross sections of ammonia

This datasets contains measured cross sections for elastic electron scattering and electron-impact ionization of ammonia, as reported in Phys. Rev. A (2025).

Elastic Cross Sections

Differential (DCS), total elastic (TECS), and momentum transfer (MTCS) cross sections are provided for primary electron energies from 30 eV to 1000 eV. DCS are given for scattering angles between 5° - 150°, with angles below 30° determined using a separate normalization procedure.

The overall uncertainties for DCS amount to 16% above 20° and 20% below. The TECS and MTCS have uncertainties up to 20%.

Ionization Cross Sections

Doubly differential electron-impact ionization cross sections (DDCS) are provided for incident energies from 60 eV to 1000 eV, with secondary energies up to approximately (T-I)/2, where I is the ionization threshold. Angular distributions are provided from 30° to 150°. From the DDCS, singly differential cross sections (SDCS) and total ionization cross sections (TICS) were obtained via numerical integration.

The experimental uncertainties of the DDCS amount to 25%, and the SDCS and TICS have uncertainties of 28% and 30%, respectively.

Normalization reference data

Nitrogen cross sections, used for normalization via the relative flow technique, are included for the same energy and angle ranges. Please note, that the provided DDCS are fitted to extract Auger lines. For original DDCS, please contact the authors.

The uncertainties for the N2 reference amount to 15%.

---------

All data are provided in plain text (txt, dat, or csv) format with units specified in the files. For visibility purposes the SDCS file is also provided in xlsx format.

Associated publication: Phys. Rev. A 2025, to be published: https://doi.org/10.1103/4wbr-p9wk
