contents
Abstract:

Climate change is increasingly influencing the global spread and transmission of animal pathogens, with far-reaching consequences for animal health, biodiversity, and food security. Rising temperatures, shifting precipitation patterns, and extreme weather events create favorable conditions for the survival and transmission of infectious agents. Key environmental factors such as temperature and humidity fluctuations, along with habitat disturbances, directly affect pathogen dynamics. Vector-borne diseases, particularly those spread by mosquitoes and ticks, are expanding into new regions as climate conditions shift. Changes in wildlife migration and increased human encroachment into natural habitats raise the risk of zoonotic spillovers, potentially leading to emerging infectious diseases. In livestock and poultry, climate-induced stress weakens immunity, increasing susceptibility to infections. Marine ecosystems, impacted by ocean warming and acidification, are also witnessing a rise in pathogen outbreaks. Moreover, climate change contributes to the acceleration of antimicrobial resistance, complicating disease control efforts. Addressing these challenges requires a One Health approach that integrates human, animal, and environmental health. This chapter emphasizes the need for robust surveillance, interdisciplinary research, and global cooperation to mitigate the impacts of climate change on animal disease transmission.

Keywords: Climate Change, Animal Pathogens, Vector-Borne Diseases, Zoonotic Spillover, Antimicrobial Resistance, One Health, Climate Adaptation, Disease Modeling.
