contents <p><strong>An Absential Birth</strong></p> <p>By Rodney Morrison</p> <p> </p> <p>Our universe is not only made of matter.  </p> <p>It is also made of Absence.</p> <p> </p> <p>“Nothing” and “Zero” are human constructs, mere illusions that fail to describe reality.  </p> <p>In truth, it's Absence:</p> <p>Infinite in volume, structured in silence, holding everything that ever was or ever could exist.</p> <p> </p> <p>But this infinite volume is not passive.  </p> <p>It holds tension, a pressure of potential so vast it cannot remain still.  </p> <p>As this pressure grows, a depression deepens in its already unevened surface.</p> <p>A Descent has begun.  </p> <p>Tension intensifies, fed only by the enormity pressing upon it.  </p> <p>Until finally, it collapses. </p> <p>It implodes.</p> <p>And within it, bursts a small pocket of realized Presence.</p> <p> </p> <p>Our universe.</p> <p> </p> <p>Over millennia, some of this Presence cools, and condenses.</p> <p>Complex structures like galaxies begin to form.</p> <p>Matter fighting for its moment to exist.  </p> <p>Stars burn. Atoms bond. Minds awaken.</p> <p>All of them flickering in the brief light of Presence.</p> <p> </p> <p>And now, we look up.  </p> <p>From within our fragile ball of existence, we gaze into the great abyss.  </p> <p>We see ourselves expanding into it.</p> <p>Slowly dissipating.</p> <p>Inevitably unraveling back into the Absence from whence we came.</p> <p> </p> <p>Where it waits.  </p> <p>Patient.  </p> <p>Infinite.  </p> <p>Listening for enough silence to collapse again.</p>
