contents <p>Data on earthworm, springtail and soil mite abundance in arable land, field margins, and grassland in Austria. Earthworms were sampled using handsorting (20x20x20 cm) of three subsamples. Springtails and soil mites were sampled from three soil cubes (5.6x5.6x5 cm) constituting a composite sample, and extracted using the Berlese method. Abundances are given per m2.</p> <p>Sampling took place in April and May 2024.</p> <p>Coordinates are rounded for privacy protection reasons and do not refer to the exact sampling location.</p> <p>Soil parameters:</p> <ul> <li>Bulk density was measured for the top 5 cm</li> <li>Water content refers to gravimetric water content</li> <li>Microbial C and N content was measured for the top 10 cm, and determined using the chloroform fumigation method</li> <li>The remaining soil parameters were measured by the Austrian agency for health and food safety following standard protocols</li> </ul> <p>For more information see the corresponding article: <a href="https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pedobi.2025.151073">https://doi.org/10.1016/j.pedobi.2025.151073</a></p> <p> </p> <p> </p>
