-
Water samples were collected from 13 sites along the French coast in the Gulf of Lyon and 13 sites along the Chilean Coast, spanning from Valparaiso to northern Patagonia and covering a wide range of coastal habitats. All 116 samples were processed for both metabarcoding and metagenomic library preparation. Metabarcoding of the 16S rRNA V4-V5 gene region yielded data for 115 samples (one failed library) comprising 53,392 amplicon sequence variants (ASVs) with some samples sharing as few as three ASVs. Metagenomic sequencing from all 116 samples enabled the reconstruction of 1372 medium to high-quality prokaryotic metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) following the standard of minimum information about a metagenome-assembled genome (MIMAG). The dataset also includes a gene catalogue of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genes exhibiting 31% of functional novelty. In addition, comprehensive environmental data were collected, including salinity, temperature, chlorophyll-a, cell densities, phosphate, nitrate, nitrite, ammonium, dissolved organic carbon (DOC), humic-like fluorescent dissolved organic matter (fDOM), protein-like fDOM, respiration and leucine incorporation rates.

Here, the ASV tables, all reconstructed MAGs, the gene catalogue of prokaryotic and eukaryotic genes, as well as the data files used as input for the technical validation presented in the associated data paper are posted. The file structure follows the structure of the Repository linked below. To avoid duplicated input files, the files were only uploaded to the directory of the scripts that the files were used in first. A copy of release version 1.0.0 of the repository is included in this data record (iowseq000048_gesifus.field.zip).

The study was financed by the German Science Foundation (DFG, BE 5937/2-3) and further financially supported via a RCPJANAH - Dotation (CPJ) from the University of Clermont Auvergne. Sampling activities in Chile were financially supported by the Chilean National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) through the COPAS Coastal project (FB210021), and through the Fondecyt 1211977 research project as well as the CNRS Laboratoire international associé program (IRP MAST CNRS INSU INSB INEE).
