| contents | <p><span lang="EN-GB">The Urban Agenda for the European Union (UAforEU), adopted through the Pact of Amsterdam in 2016, sets the priorities related to the urban policy at the European level. It is the result of a policy process that dates to the 1990s, when the European Commission approved the Communication ‘Towards an EU Urban Agenda in the EU’ (COM (97)197). This document laid the foundation for a more integrated and coordinated approach to urban policy at the EU level. Moreover, the UAforEU is meant to contribute to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goal 11, and the global New Urban Agenda, as part of the Habitat III process.</span></p> <p><span lang="EN-GB">The UAforEU has introduced an innovative working method based on Thematic Partnerships (TPs) that are conceived as ‘delivery mechanisms’ within a multilevel governance framework. This method recognizes the increased interdependence of public authorities operating at different territorial levels, as well as the interconnectedness between public authorities and non-state stakeholders. It is aimed at fostering network governance and inspired in the so-called ‘Dutch Approach’ to urban development and the ‘City Deals’ launched by the country in 2015.</span></p> |
