contents
Abstract

Portrait art is one of the oldest forms of art known to humanity, evolving alongside civilizations since the dawn of history, capturing the features of individuals and documenting their moments, social status, and cultural significance. This research aims to study the evolution of portrait art through the ages, focusing on the transformations it has undergone in light of modern technological innovations, and exploring the challenges and future prospects facing this vital art form.

The research adopts a historical approach to analyze the development of portrait techniques, from mural sculpture and traditional painting, through the era of photography, to digital media and artificial intelligence technologies. An analytical approach is also used to study a selection of portrait works by global and contemporary artists, in addition to a descriptive approach to highlight the technical, artistic, and ethical issues.

The research concludes that modern technologies have not eliminated traditional portrait art but have expanded its expressive tools. However, they have also introduced new challenges related to authenticity, identity, and artistic uniqueness. On the other hand, these innovations offer unprecedented creative potentials, urging artists to develop their skills and adopt contemporary tools without compromising the essence of human art.

The research recommends the necessity of updating academic art curricula, opening broader fields for artists to integrate technology into their practices, and emphasizing the need for legal and ethical frameworks to protect the rights of artists and the public in the changing digital landscape.
