contents
Pragmatism is a philosophy that values practical experience and action over fixed truths. It teaches that truth changes with time and is valid only if useful to life. This paper explores the core principles and how they apply to education, highlighting its focus on learning by doing, flexible curriculum, student-centered teaching methods, and the evolving role of the teacher. It also discusses how pragmatism promotes social discipline and values real-life experiences in shaping education. While it contributes significantly to modern educational thought, pragmatism also faces criticism for overlooking spiritual and ethical absolutes, and for potentially promoting a utilitarian and materialistic outlook. Despites its limitations pragmatism remains a key influence in shaping democratic, experiential, and evolving educational practices.
