-
Iguaçu National Park is one of Brazil's most precious treasures, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a biodiversity sanctuary. But what if its survival were threatened by a mega-infrastructure project?
In this book, I delve into the complex and urgent issue of Nova Ferroeste, a railway designed to cross one of the most sensitive regions on the planet. More than a technical debate, it's a question about our future: what is the true cost of progress? Can we reconcile economic development with the protection of one of our greatest natural heritage sites?
Analyzing scenarios and assessing potential consequences, I show how the railway can become a symbol of choices that will shape the fate of the Park, its rich biodiversity, and the communities that live in its surroundings. This work is an invitation to reflect and, above all, to act. It is a call to think of Iguaçu National Park not only as a tourist destination, but as a territory of memory, identity, and belonging. I hope this work inspires honest dialogue and the pursuit of a more just and sustainable future, where the well-being of nature and people go hand in hand with development.
