| contents | <p>The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) powered legal tools into legal research in Nigeria is emerging as a transformative development in the practice of law, offering opportunities for efficiency, accuracy, and broader access to justice. While legal research in Nigeria has traditionally been manual, time consuming, and prone to human error, recent innovations in AI driven platforms such as predictive analytics, automated case law retrieval, and document review systems present a paradigm shift in the administration of justice. This research appraised the role, challenges, and potential of AI powered legal research tools in Nigeria, with a view to determining their impact on efficiency, legal education, and judicial outcomes. Despite the global traction of AI tools in legal practice, Nigeria lags behind in regulatory frameworks, training, and effective utilization. The research methodology adopted for this study is doctrinal and analytical, referencing comparative studies of AI adoption in other jurisdictions. Research questions including the current state of AI integration in Nigerian legal research and how do AI powered tools affect the efficiency and reliability of legal research in Nigeria were appraised. The research found that the slow adoption of AI in Nigerian legal research is due to, among other factors, infrastructural deficits, limited technical expertise, and concerns over data privacy, ethics, and over reliance on technology. Arising from this, the study recommends, among other things, developing comprehensive policies on legal technology and training lawyers and judges in AI literacy.</p> |
