| contents | <p>This report examines the challenges Community Food Organisations (CFOs) face in maintaining food safety and hygiene while redistributing surplus food and provides recommendations to strengthen the current system. It was produced through the GenerationResearch scheme based at the University of York in collaboration with FixOurFood, FareShare Yorkshire, and the Food Standards Agency (FSA). The study builds on the FSA’s earlier qualitative research by reviewing guidance from the FSA, FareShare, and WRAP, and by conducting interviews with nine CFOs and one UK supermarket. The findings show that CFOs play an important role in reducing food waste and improving access to safe and nutritious food. At the same time, they experience several operational and compliance challenges.</p> |
