  • <p>The article reinterprets a fragment of the Hypatian Codex (Latopis halicko-wołyński) describing the arrival of Duke Konrad II of Masovia at Lublin. The main thesis is that the “góra u mnichów” (“hill of the monks”) and the “wieża u mnichów” (“tower of the monks”) must be located within medieval Lublin, specifically on the Wzgórze Staromiejskie (Old Town Hill), rather than outside the city. Two hypotheses are developed: first, that the monks may have been Benedictines rather than Dominicans, supported by the hospitable Rule 53, the network of Benedictine tithes in the region, and surviving charters (1270, 1286, 1319); second, that the tower stood on the eastern edge of the Wzgórze Staromiejskie, c. 300–500 m from the castle, with visibility of both the Ruthenian Road (Trakt Ruski) and the stronghold. Two potential sites within the Dominican complex are proposed, with preference for the structure beneath today’s Sala Unii Lubelskiej (Union of Lublin Hall).</p>
