•
In nature, the ocean halocline is a typical layered structure with distinct vertical salinity gradients and horizontal drift characteristics. The halocline not only affects the physical properties of ocean water, but also plays an important role in the marine ecosystem. Inspired by the dynamics of halocline migration, this paper proposes a new heuristic optimization algorithm, the Halocline Migration Optimization (HMO), which maps the vertical drift, oblique movement, and dynamic mixing mechanisms of the halocline to the solution update process of the search space. The algorithm achieves a balance between global exploration and local development through hierarchical control, gradient nonlinear weighting, oblique drift, and periodic depth adjustment. This paper derives the mathematical model of the algorithm in detail and proposes a new mathematical formula system to demonstrate the unique mechanism and innovation of the algorithm.
